1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the short-term indicative policy rate (repo rate) unchanged at 7.75 percent at its sixth bi-monthly monetary policy review. RBI slashed Statutory Liquidity Ratio (SLR) by 50 basis points to 21.5 percent.

भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) ने छठी मौद्रिक नीति समीक्षा जारी कर दी और नीतिगत ब्या ज दरों में कोई बदलाव नहीं किया है। आरबीआई ने अल्पकालिक ऋण दर या रेपो दर को 7.75 प्रतिशत पर अपरिवर्तित रखा है। आरबीआई ने सांविधिक तरलता अनुपात (एसएसआर) को 50 आधार अंकों से घटा कर 21.5 प्रतिशत कर दिया।

2. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Chinese Vice-Premier Wang Yang jointly launched the Visit India Year in China at a function in Beijing. The initiative is aimed at enhancing the flow of tourists from China to India and strengthen the people to people bond. It is agreed to designate 2015 as Visit India Year in China and 2016 as Visit China Year in India.

3. Union Govt. has decided to rename the second phase of JNNURM, the scheme to rejuvenate India’s 500 cities and towns. Now it has been renamed as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

केन्द्र सरकार ने जवाहरलाल नेहरू राष्ट्रीय शहरी नवीनीकरण मिशन (जेएनएनयूआरएम) योजना के दूसरे चरण का नाम बदल कर अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी के नाम पर करने की घोषणा की है। देश के 500 शहरों और कस्बों के पुनरोद्धार के लिए संचालित इस योजना के इस नए चरण को अब अटल नवीनीकरण एवं नगरीय रूपान्तरण मिशन (एएमआरयूटी) कहा जाएगा।

4. India’s first germplasm bank in the private sector started its operations. This bank capable of protecting the seeds up to 40 years has been set up at Medchal near Hyderabad. Gubba Group established this germplasm bank. Gubba Group has a network of 12 cold storage facilities. The bank has been established with an investment of Rs. 4 crore and it can withstand earthquakes, power outages and fire accidents.

भारत में निजी क्षेत्र के पहले जर्मप्लाज़्म बैंक ने अपना संचालन शुरू कर दिया। हैदराबाद के पास मेडचल में स्थापित इस बैंक में वनस्पति बीजों को 40 साल तक संरक्षित रखा जा सकेगा। इस बैंक की स्थापना गुब्बा समूह ने की है। गुब्बा समूह वर्तमान में 12 कोल्ड स्टोरेज का संचालन कर रहा है। 4 करोड़ रुपए के निवेश से स्थापित इस बैंक की एक और विशेषता यह है कि यह भूकंप, बिजली कटौती तथा आज जैसी आपदाओं/समस्याओं को झेल सकने में सक्षम है।

5. Hindi novelist Mithileshwar was awarded with Shrilal Shukla Sahitya IFFCO Award 2014. He is the 4th recipient of this literary award. Some of his famous novels are: Prem na Badi Oopjai, Surang me Subah, Yah Ant Nahin, Jhunia (1980), Yuddh Sthal (1981).

6. Italy's parliament has elected constitutional court judge Sergio Mattarella as the country's president. Mr. Mattarella, 73, succeeded Giorgio Napolitano, 89, who stood down earlier this month citing "signs of fatigue".

7. Pakistan conducted a successful flight test of the indigenously developed Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM) ‘Ra’ad’. With a range of 350 kilometres, the Ra’ad missile enables Pakistan to achieve strategic standoff capability both on land and at sea. The state of the art Ra’ad cruise missile was built with “Cruise Technology” which has been developed by only a few countries in the world and gives the missile stealth capabilities.

पाकिस्तान ने 350 किलोमीटर तक परमाणु एवं पारंपरिक हथियार ले जाने में सक्षम स्वदेशी रूप से विकसित एक नए क्रूज मिसाइल ‘राड’ का परीक्षण किया जिसकी जद में कई भारतीय शहर हैं। राड मिसाइल से पाकिस्तान को सतह एवं समुद्र में ‘सामरिक गतिरोध क्षमता’ हासिल करने में मदद मिलेगी क्योंकि यह बेहद जटिल ‘क्रूज टेक्नोलोजी’ का इस्तेमाल करता है। इस तकनीक का विकास दुनिया के कुछ ही देश कर पाए हैं।

8. Madhya Pradesh has been awarded the 10th national award for excellent work in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Union Rural Development Minister Virendra Singh presented the award to state’s Panchayats and Rural Development Minister Gopal Bhargava at the MGNREGA summit held on the occasion of MNREGA Divas (observed on 2 February) in New Delhi.

9. Photo journalist Krishna Murari Kishan, who had won praise for communal riots coverage in Jamshedpur in 1978 and in Bhagalpur in 1989, died at a private hospital after suffering multiorgan failure. He was 62.

1989 में भागलपुर में और 1978 में जमशेदपुर में सांप्रदायिक दंगों के कवरेज के लिए प्रशंसित फोटो पत्रकार कृष्ण मुरारी किशन का बहुअंग विफलता के कारण एक निजी अस्पताल में निधन हो गया। वह 62 वर्ष के थे।

10. Dr. Nandita Chatterjee took over as the new Secretary in the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA). Her last assignment was as Member-Secretary, National Commission for Women.

5. Japan launched a backup information gathering satellite (IGS), the country`s first launch of this year. The satellite is equipped with a radar spy instrument capable of peering through clouds, darkness and camouflage to obtain high-resolution imagery of the Earth`s surface. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. launched the spy satellite aboard a H-2A rocket from Tanegashima Space Centre in Kagoshima prefecture.

6. Padma Vibhushan recipient and tragedy king of Bollywood Dilip Kumar was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Indian cinema. Actor Anupam Kher accepted the award on Kumar’s behalf from the Jaipur International Film Festival (Jiff) organising team.

9. India launched its flagship diplomacy magazine in Chinese language to give “interesting” information about the country’s rich culture and tradition. This Chinese version ‘Yindu Shijiao’ was launched on the occasion of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s maiden visit to China. ‘India Perspectives’ is printed in 15 languages and is circulated in as many as 170 countries.

10. Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies all-rounder, has announced his retirement from Test cricket, but wants to continue representing the side in limited-overs games. Bravo had not played Tests since December 2010, and his decision comes after he lost the ODI captaincy to Jason Holder and was then axed from the one-day side for the tour of South Africa and also the World Cup.

SSC exams, Registration may go online

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination may soon be made online, if a recommendation of the expert group set up to review the SSC examination system is accepted.

The panel, constituted by the department of personnel and training (DoPT) on February 13 this year under the chairmanship of former UPSC member IMG Khan, has in its report made several recommendations for improvement in the current SSC examination system Three working groups set up earlier this month to deliberate on recommendations of the panel have now submitted suggestions on the national screening test and technology related issues, awareness campaign, and issues relating to Cen tral armed force recruitment. The working group has recommended that online exam be introduced without further delay , apart from compulsory online registration (with a delayed start for the northeast region) and web and mobile app-based application system. The group also called for assessment of infrastructure and whether private agencies, universities, engi neering colleges are to be used for setting up physical exam infrastructure.

In the marking system, mandatory negative marking has been suggested, apart from normalization of score.Besides, to ensure transparency , uploading of marks, result, question papers, scanned answer papers and answer keys is recommended.

TOP HEADLINES –02.02.2015

 1. India successfully carried out the maiden canister-based trial of its most potent missile Agni-V, which has a strike range of over 5000 kms and can carry a nuclear warhead of over one tonne. The missile was launched from a canister mounted on a road-mobile launcher at Wheeler's Island off Odisha coast.

2. South African ODI captain AB de Villiers has become the country's first living cricketer to have a suite named after him. The provincial franchise Titans decided to do this following De Villiers' multiple record-breaking success against the visiting West Indies last week.

3. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel launched the Taluka Planning Atlas (TPA) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The TPA seeks to enable the local administration in taking effective decisions about the development in respective regions by providing precise information about the current status of various facilities and schemes.

4. The Reserve Bank constituted a high-powered panel to re-examine and recommend appropriate set of businesses, size, conversion and licensing terms for the urban cooperative banking sector. The committee under the chairmanship of RBI Deputy Governor R. Gandhi has been set up on the recommendation made by the Standing Advisory Committee (SAC) on UCBs last year.

5. Charles Hard Townes, the recipient of the 1964 Nobel Prize in physics and co-inventor of the Laser passed away. He was 99.

o भौतिकी के क्षेत्र में 1964 नोबेल पुरस्कार से सम्मानित और लेजर के सह-अन्वेषक चाल्र्स हार्ड टाउंस का निधन हो गया। वह 99 वर्ष के थे।

6. According to Gold Fields Mineral Services (GFMS) India overtook China as the world’s biggest gold consumer in 2014 as global physical demand fell. Chinese gold demand slid by more than a third last year to a four-year low of 866 tonnes. Indian jewellery demand rose 14 percent last year to a record 690 tonnes.

o गोल्ड फील्ड्स मिनरल सर्विसेज (जीएफएमएस) के अनुसार वैश्विक भौतिक मांग में आई गिरावट के कारण भारत ने 2014 में दुनिया के सबसे बड़े सोने के उपभोक्ता चीन को पीछे छोड़ दिया है। चीन की सोने की मांग पिछले साल के मुकाबले एक तिहाई घटकर चार साल के निम्नतम स्तर 866 टन पर पहुच गई। भारतीय आभूषणों की मांग पिछले साल 14 फीसदी बढ़कर रिकॉर्ड 690 टन पर पहुँच गई थी।

7. Defence Secretary R.K. Mathur took the additional charge of Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development Organisation for a period of three months. He succeeded Dr. Avinash Chander.

8. Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has been appointed as Chairman of African Union (AU). He will be serving as the 13th Chairman of African Union. He is the longest serving President of Zimbabwe.

o ज़िम्बाब्वे के राष्ट्रपति रॉबर्ट मुगाबे को अफ्रीकी संघ (एयू) के अध्यक्ष के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया है। वह अफ्रीकी संघ के 13वें अध्यक्ष के रूप में सेवारत होंगे। वह जिम्बाब्वे के सबसे लंबे समय तक सेवारत अध्यक्ष है।

9. The Indian government revised the base year for computing national accounts resulting in the upward economic growth rate of 6.9 percent for 2013-14. The GDP estimates under the old method was 4.7 percent. The ministry of statistics and programme implementation has released the new series of national accounts, revising the base year from 2004-05 to 2011-12.

o भारत सरकार ने राष्ट्रीय आय की गणना के लिये अब वर्ष 2011-12 की कीमतों को तुलना का आधार बनाया है और आधार वर्ष बदलने से वित्त वर्ष 2013-14 में की आर्थिक वृद्धि दर 6.9 प्रतिशत पर आ गयी है। इससे पहले चल रही आधार वर्ष 2004-05 की श्रृंखला के अनुसार 2013-14 की वृद्धि दर 4.7 प्रतिशत थी। सांख्यिकी एवं कार्यक्रम कार्यान्वयन मंत्रालय ने आधार वर्ष में 2004-05 से 2011-12 का संशोधन करते हुए, राष्ट्रीय खातों की नई श्रृंखला जारी की है।

10. Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara broke the world record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in one-day internationals (ODIs). He achieved this feat when he reached his 473 dismissal against New Zealand in an ODI.
